Lake City, FL Main Post Office

Akel, Logan, and Shafer was responsible for planning and design of the expansion and renovation of the existing Lake City, Florida Main Post Office.  The project consisted of an 11,000 square foot expansion to the original 17,000 square foot building as well as renovation of the original building.  The completed 28,000 square foot facility resulted in a state-of-the-art postal facility.

This facility includes a Postal Retail Store, enlarged post office box lobby, a new business mail lobby, renovated administrative area, new Criminal Investigative Office for the Postal Inspection Service, and workroom.  Also included is a covered carrier loading area for 25 carrier vehicles.

This project required the purchase of additional adjacent land for the expansion including a portion of an existing city street resulting in a street closure and design of a street realignment to maintain existing traffic patterns.  The project was constructed in two phases to maintain uninterrupted postal services without the need for a temporary facility.
