Historic Monticello, GA Main Post Office
Monticello, GA
The Historic Monticello Post Office was constructed in 1936 as the main post office and housed a US Department of Agriculture office in the basement. The agriculture department vacated the offices many years ago and those offices have been vacant since that time. The building is currently operated as a post office. It has suffered for many years from lack of maintenance resulting in severe damage from water intrusion. The building currently remains essentially as originally constructed.
The project scope includes reroofing both the low slope roof area and slate covered gable roof, restoring the original exterior wood windows, repointing the brick joints, repairing and repainting the interior plaster wall and ceiling finishes, and waterproofing the basement walls. ALS worked with the Georgia Historic Preservation Division regarding approvals for the proposed project scope.
