The Historic Fernandina Beach Post Office Building
Fernandina Beach, FL
The Historic Fernandina Beach Post Office building was built in 1912. Since the completion of a mid-1990’s restoration/renovation it suffered severe water damage from a leaking roof and water intrusion through the outside walls, and a failed concealed gutter/internal downspout system. In 2017, ALS completed an exterior restoration and installation of a new HVAC system to control internal moisture. The project included new exterior waterproofing, restoration of the original wood windows, replacement of the gutter/downspout system conforming to the Fernandina Beach Historic Standards, cleaned and restored the wrought iron work, and replaced the broken architectural terra cotta. Also, ALS worked with the Florida Division of Historic Resources regarding maintaining consistency with the Secretary of the Interior Historic Building Restoration Standards.
